Romaine Demand is Steady, Good Pricing

This week’s Legacy Market News Report features vital information for all food industries. Here is a recap:

ROMAINE: Salinas Green Leaf production volumes are tracking slightly above budget for the week. Carton weights are improving, and overall quality is great. Demand is steady and pricing is at promotable levels. Romaine is steady as she goes. In some samples I have found some fringe burn.

POTATOES: The potato market continues to move upward due to increased demand for foodservice. We are shipping the Pro Mark label in the Burbank variety now. On the quality front, I saw some pressure bruising on the sample I liked at again this week, but overall, they looked good. The market is advancing just slightly.

BLACKBERRIES: We are in our peak production weeks and expect supply volume to maintain at this level for another 1-2 weeks, until begging to downtrend thereafter. Almost all the volume will be produced from Central Mexico. California is expected to start ramping up in mid-May. North Carolina is expected to start in 4-5 weeks.

MANGO: The quality is good and are becoming increasingly popular. Make sure you are promoting them with your customers.

CILANTRO: Volume is expected to be significantly lower due to light bacterial spotting in most bunches.
